Hi All,
I have been enjoying lurking around and soaking up all the great info you all share so freely.
After being a SAHM for several years, I am ready to go back to work. I am also ready to shift the direction of my career from marketing/admin'ish type work to DBA. I have 5 years of experience designing and managing Access databases. I've begun CBT for the MCDBA tests and that is going well so far.
My question is this: I plan to attend some career fairs and I'm unclear as to what kinds of positions I'd be qualified for with my experience and an MCDBA. Does my Access experience "count" towards a 1-5 yr. experience role or am I a total newb?
Thanks in advance.....

I'd still think you are a junior DBA since so much of SQL Server is different from Access. There are definitely cross overs in the database design, understanding how tables work, and more, but the core of SQL Server is different.
I think certification will help, but you don't really have any SQL Server experience.

Thanks for such a quick response, Steve.
On the point of experience...would doing a few free projects be helpful for me to gain some experience? I'm thinking mainly for my church, I wouldn't just go out on the street giving away free work.
I'm not trying to argue my way out of being a Jr. I'm actually pretty relieved about that. I just want to make myself attractive.

Doing some projects would definitely help and I'd consider them. Especially if you could bring a version to teh interview on a laptop, explain how/why things work.
I'm not saying you're not qualified, but it's hard to tell if you've done Access stuff for 5 years. That could be good or bad.
