Growing log file...

  • we have indexing jobs which keeps on increasing the log file for online index maintenance for our sql server 2005 instance , is there any way we can minimize the growth with out taking db in simple recovery mode , currently it is in full , does sort in tempdb option helps?

  • This may not be the answer you are looking for but one solution is to perform log backups more frequently.

  • Surely you can put db in simple recovery mode and it will help but before changing recovery model make sure this database is not used into production.

If you will put db into simple recovery mode you won't be able to restore point in time as well as in recovery data loss will be more. You will recover db till last full backup only.
