Goin to PASS!

  • Well, I was told today by my manager that they are going to pay for me to go to PASS! I was already planing to attend but this saves me a ton of cash. I'm so excited! I can't wait to meet some of the folks from the boards there.

  • Lucky bum, I can't get even the 200 a year they promise us for instructional materials without signing a wavier on my life lately. Ahh, maybe next year.

  • Be sure you register with the SSC code and we'll have a shirt waiting for you. Looking forward to meeting you as well.

  • I'd like to see PASS host a conference in the southern hemisphere once in a while. Then it might be more affordable to attend because I'm not shelling out for airfares to the US.

    Hope this helps

  • Well, after years of trying to get to ether PASS I finally decided f'it I'll just shell out the money and go. It's not cheap to go if you are state side ether. I've got to fly from austin to the conf and back plus hotel and all that goes with having fun at a conf.

  • I'd love to be able to just shell out the money and go. Every time a conference comes around I just cringe at all the really cool stuff that's being presented.

Unfortunately it's just not a financially viable option. Here's some rough figures,

    2 x pre-conference seminars (often the best part) $AUD 1150

registration fee (assuming I booked early) $AUD 1840

Hotel (at special rate for 6 days) $AUD 1450

Best (read el cheapo) airfare $AUD 1509

    GRAND TOTAL $AUD 5949 approx $US 3800

And all this doesn't include "all that goes with having fun at a conf"

Even if I wanted to do some sort of deal with my employer, there is no way they'd shell out more than $2000, and if I was to front up with more than $3000, I'd want to have more than a week in the US.

    Hope this helps

I see no chance for me in a lifetime, even if I were in the IT department.
