Yes, not difficult that I re-read a couple times to make sure I was not missing anything. Though the wording could be better "I want to return the nickname if there is one, then the firstname,..." made me believe initially that there was more than one column to be returned.

I got the answer correct but it say's I got it wrong?
SELECT 'name' = COALESCE( nickname, firstname, firstname2) FROM dbo.Contacts
SELECT 'name' = COALESCE( nickname, firstname, firstname2) FROM dbo.Contacts
