Getting remote connection error

  • Hi SQL Masters

I am facing a very wired issue where one of my default SQL instance is getting connected but the named instance is giving the error

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 - Could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 5)

I have checked the setting on Service Area configuration for services and connections to allow remote connections and browser setting for named instance.

Can anybody help me out what is happening.

    Thx

  • Is the named instance set to listen on named pipes? (See Network Configuration in Configuration Manager)

And the SQL Server Browser service is running?

    Paul
