Thanks for a good question. There's actually grumblings of getting SQL 2016 here, even though we still have a SQL 2005 instance. Why not, right? The more versions of SQL Server running in a single environment, the better. :hehe:

LOL that sounds like my place. We have production instances with 2005, 2008, 2012 and 2014. We did finally remove the last 2000 instance a couple of years ago. :w00t:

I think most DBAs would be more excited about RegEx integration than R. :doze:

Their head office has only recently approved the upgrade of their databases from SQL2005 to SQL2008....:hehe:
If they don't mind paying extra for extended support...

SQL Server 2005 is no longer supported - I believe it was April 2016.
I was responding to 'from SQL2005 to SQL2008' - the latter one is on extended support. So I wander why would anyone go that route. Maybe they got some special deal.
