I made a maintainence plan with the graphical editor that just did a full backup of all databases in one step, then a full backup of transaction logs in the next. When I look at the files the backups seem to have run, but if I look in the job history log I see:
12/15/2010 02:00:00,Backups.Subplan_1,Error,0,ROEPMT001Q,Backups.Subplan_1,(Job outcome),,The job failed. The Job was invoked by Schedule 1 (Backups.Subplan_1). The last step to run was step 1 (Subplan_1).,00:03:58,0,0,,,,0
Where can I get useful detail on what about the job failed? Prior to service pack 3 I was getting a "syntax error" (generated by their gui editor I guess) - but now that's gone, but I still see the "job failed" designation above.
Thanks,
Al

go each of the jobs...right click and you will see view history...you should see lots more....
you could have gotten that because you were doing DB backup and when it was still going the T log tried to do a back up as well
just a quick guess

View the history on the maintenance plan - not the history on the job.
BTW, you do not appear to be backing up the transaction logs frequently enough. If all you are doing is backing them up once a day - you are effectively stating that you can afford to lose up to a full days worth of data.
If your system fails in the middle of the day and you have to restore - you would only be able to restore to the previous backup.
Please review the article I link to in my signature on managing the transaction logs. It should help you understand why you need to back it up more frequently.
