I have a SQL Server job that kicks off a DTS job. I would like the job to report a failure if the DTS package fails. Currently if the job kicks off the DTS it reports success even if the DTS package fails. Is there a way to get the job to report failure if the DTS package fails? The mitigating factor is that I cannot modify the DTS task (it is vendor supplied) aside from the job properties and the DTS execute package properties - unless someone knows something I don't - which is what I'm hoping for.
Perhaps try creating a new DTS package which calls the exisiting vendor supplied DTS and schedule this instead, you can then use the email facility in DTS to email you if the task executing the vendor supplied DTS package fails.
