Further questions from Bol

  • I had some further questions regarding some points made in BOL. When discussing backup/restore, it states that you must have some provisions for the management of backup media. Specifically, the following:

    • A tracking and management plan for storing and recycling backup sets. What kind of plan is this, what would it include and what would its impact be?
    • A schedule for overwriting backup media. What does schedule mean in this context? And what is such a plan for?
    • In a multi-server environment, a decision to use either centralized or distributed backups. What is the difference and what is the importance of each?
    • A procedure to minimize the effects of the loss of a backup set or backup media (for example, a tape). What would such a procedure be like? What would it include?

I would highly appreciate if someone clarified these issues.
