Scenario:
Remote server:
Full Backup of database on Sunday. File transferred to Corporate server and restored.
Differential backups M,T,W,R,F,S at remote server writing to Corporate full backup device (file from remote).
Problem:
If another full backup is created, say Wednesday, at the remote server then the next differential writen to the corporate device becomes invalid ("Cannot apply backup to.." ) when RESTORE is executed.
How may this problem be overcome? I do not want to have to do another full and start the process over mid-week. Please advise. Thank you.

You have a backup schedule defined but users still have permission to do ad-hoc backups?
I'd say the easiest fix is to remove everyones access to backing up. Then your schedule should continue without failure.

Differentials can only be restored over the last full backup, there's no way around this.
Your options are:
(1) Don't do full backups outside your weekly schedule. Ad hoc differentials are OK but your users must have access to the base full backup.
(2) Allow ad hoc full backups but transfer them & restore them to the Corporate Server.
(3) Try another method of keeping the Corporate Server up to date - log shipping? replication?
Good luck!
