In the hope that my experience might benefit others....
1. Installed the Full Text Search Engine from my CD on my SQL Server 7. The server was at SP4.
2. Built a Full Text Cataloged and populated it. Ran a simple full text query (using the CONTAINS syntax).
3. Server returned the following error:
Server: Msg 7607, Level 17, State 1, Line 1
Search on full-text catalog 'Cat 1' for database ID 8, table ID 610101214 with search condition ' late ' failed with unknown result (30dbf970).
4. Closest I could find on KB was Q317486 but this applied only to SQL 2000. Contacted Microsoft and was told to reapply SP4. They did not say it was a bug in SQL 7 but SP4 may fix it. (Full Text Search was not installed when I first applied SP4)
5. Applied SP4 but it hung at the MDAC install. Contacted MS and was told to abort and separately install more current MDAC, server had 2.1; installed 2.5 sp2. They said do not go higher than 2.5.
6. Started SP4 again and completed successfully.
7. Full Text Search now works!!!
I Don't know why the MDAC issue did not come up the first time I installed SP4. Anyway, I hope this helps someone implement Full Text on SQL 7.
