full text population

  • Hi,

I've been running into some problems while populating my catalogs. My catalogs seem to be populating at a very fast pace even when the catalogs are really big. When I run my full text queries, I do not get any matches. I'm guessing that my catalogs happen to be blank.

I looked up the FTDATA folder and the files seem to be empty. I don't know why my catalogs are not populating correctly even though I'm not getting any error messages.

    Any help will be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Gaine

  • Gaine,

Have you or anyone else changed the MSSQLServer services startup account &/or password via Win2K's Component services applet? If so, this could account for the FT Catalog's not populating. You should review the server's Application event log for "Microsoft Search" and MssCi source events to confirm this as this is the only place where FT Indexing errors are written.

After reviewing the app event log, and finding a FT Indexing error, review the following two KB articles for how to resolve the error.

317746 PRB: SQL Server Full-Text Search Does Not Populate Catalogs

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;317746

277549 PRB: Unable to Build Full-Text Catalog After You Modify MSSQLServer Logon Account Through [NT4.0) Control Panel [or Win2K Component Services]

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;277549

    Thanks,

    John
