Hugo,
Thank you for the easy to follow explanation on the restores.

Nice question,
I learned this a fun way when I created a new database and hadn't checked my email for a few hours. Came back to a full inbox saying my transaction log backups had failed...every 10 minutes, until I did a full backup of the new database.

Interesting question that took some thought. Thanks for the explanation Hugo.

Makes sense...

Great back-to-basics question!
I just wasn't too sure if SQL Server would allow the log backup to be made or not but Hugo's explanation was right to the point.

Thanks for the nice straightforward question and answer.
<pedantry>
The answer is of course wrong :-). You can take log backups after doing file backups, You never actually have to do a full backup. Of course any-one who doesn't start with a full backup is probably a nutcase (or worse :crazy:), but the system is actually designed to allow you to get away with file backups and log backups and no full backups :w00t:.
</pedantry>
Actually, I prefer the answer given to the pedantic one

I was looking for the trick question. I just wanted to go with my gut and click NO, but I thought MAYBE there was something that might make it possible. QOTD is making me paranoid π
Easy one! (if you don't get paranoid!)
