Hi
I have a 1.5TB database that takes 6-7 hours to backup.
At the end of the successful backup completion do we get a backup as at the point of start of backup or at the point of finish. In other words, are the changes that happen during the backup process (6-7 hours) captured or not.
Thank you
Hirantha

It's a backup at the point when it finishes. A full backup will contain any changes that happened during the backup itself.
Thanks

I am curious though. What would happen if the server crashes in the middle of the full backup (after 4 hours for example). Then you last valid backup is at least 4 hours ago.
Can you still run transaction log backups while the full backup is in progress ?

Yes the transaction log backups will still run during a full backup and will give you a recovery point if the server crashes during the full backup. Obviously you would need to restore the last completed full backup and then apply the logs.
Thanks
