At my last place, we had a complete Gym in the building. Here - no such luck. However, I do go out for walks twice a day during breaks. We have a section lunch at least once every 2 weeks as we have a really great team. The other method of clearing my mind is talking to my 2 year old granddaughter - Now that is a treat! Would say the same thing about my 8 year old grandson but sometimes his constant questioning does little to reduce a brain cramp. Back in my earlier days - we used to play Cribbage or Pinochle. I sure miss them days......:ermm:
One other thing....
I used to love to read the news but nowadays - that is way to depressing!

Walks around the building. Or several buildings. Great way to get some fresh air, sunshine, a little exercise, and come back refreshed.

When the company I work for was still in the start up phase, several of us used to take LONG walks while discussing issues at work. It was great for getting the juices flowing and surprisingly effective at helping us get to the heart of a problem. There's something to be said for talking while everyone is facing the same direction, instead of facing each other across the table. The only thing missing was a whiteboard.

I work at home, and luckly I have a wall with 3 real guitars, 1 bass guitar, 1 accoustic guitar and 1 guitar hero guitar, LOL... But i have connected to my home office room, a recording room. It´s my SQL Server and software development room that in some moments turns to studio recording rooms (www.myspace.com/karlbrehme), recording friends or just me, I play guitar and sing.
But actualy I prefer a light machinegun trembling the xbox 360 gamepad in hands, or in the machinegun of a tank, playing Battlefield Bad Company hehe.

I've been with the same outfit since 1986; since 1997 I've worked at home, going in to the office only once in a while (haven't been down there since last fall). I get a lot more work done this way. When I need a break I can ride my bike a few miles (or shovel snow a yard deep!), split firewood, tend the garden, or run some errands. Getting some exercise mid-day always makes me more effective afterwards. Clears the head; often formerly elusive solutions will jump out.
