Freespace mystery

    Sql7 sp4:

    I have a large db of 59GB on 2 filegroups. When I left Friday, filegroup1 had no freespace and I shrunk filegroup2 and so minimum freespace remained.

    Over the weekend, a db maintenance plan ran the optimization option that reorganizes the freespace per page to 10%.

    Upon checking the database on Tuesday, the amount of freespace on each filegroup is 31%.

    Does anyone know how reorganizing freespace to 10% grew the fileroups to 31%?

    Thanks for any help.

    I neglected to mention that this is a report-only db and the weekly load job has not occurred yet. Additionally, the 2 major tables contain 14 indexes.
