can someone tell me what forum software sqlservercentral.com is using?
Can this software be easily configured/extended ?
Thanks for all replies.

I wanted to know this too. I thought I'd reply and bring it back to the top of the pile...

Hi Chris,
I'm not sure but I think I found out that the software is InstantForum.NET.
I'm not sure though.
Hope this helps,

Yes, InstantForum.Net. This is v3 and has been in use for a couple years now. You can buy the source code as well, which we did and customized some. The code is pretty decent and Ryan at Instant was good to work with for questions. It's been stable and has been liked a whole lot more than Snitz which preceded it. Downsides are that they do their authorization and there is no support (even in v4 I think) for master pages. I'd much rather have the option to use the .Net forms authorization. Worth taking to them if you're looking for a solution.

I have had good success with PhpBB... it's pretty easy to hack, and it's free. I hacked the login so my users only have to log in to my site once. The style sheets are all easy to customize as well, and it has a lot of good features for users.

Hi Rookie,
I'm actually looking for forum software that would allow me to set up a lot of forums. Each of them would need to be managed by different people and would need to shown its own set of threads and discussions.
Would this be feasable with phpbb ? Any other options that I would want to consider ?
Thanks

Yes, it can do that. Same as any other. I would show you my site but it's secure for our members only. We have multiple 'classes' who are groups of folks in different stages of our education process. Each class has their own forum, and if we wanted, we could keep users restricted to their class forum. If you go to the phpbb site, they have forums similar to this one, with multiple moderators. It's pretty much the same deal as the .Net one, but you don't have to pay for the code. It might be worth it to pay for the code though, if the rest of your site is .Net. I had to do some majick to make our .Net stuff authenticate a user on the phpbb, but once they're in, it works as expected.

Most forums usually allow something like this as a moderator. We started with Snitz forums, which are free. You might want to check them out as well as others.
