Flat File Option Missing on Import Wizard

  • Hi All

I face a problem on one of my machines, when i click on the import wizard and try to import a flat file, i cant find " flat file data source type" i tried to install SSIS on that machine, and then reinstalled all SQL server instance and installed with SSIS, even then i cant find the option, has any one faced problems like this?

    Thanks in advance 🙂

  • in SSIS create a new project. Drag a new "Data flow task" from the Control flow items. Edit the new "Data flow task" and in the Toolbox under "Data Flow Destinations" you will see "Flat file destination" option

  • i use SQL impoer wizard, right click on database and then selet import option

  • thats what i thought.

when the wizard starts, after the welcome screen the next screen is the choose data source dialog. Drop down the list box "Data source" and "flat file source" option is near the top

  • exactly it is where it should be, but the problem is its not there,i have got all other options including import from Excel, but flat file is missing 🙂

  • ensure you scroll to the very top

  • i did pretty, its not there, that is my exact confusion, this is the first time i am facing this problem

There was a problem with SQL, when u dont install SSIS then you will get some errors on import wizard, but once u install SSIS then the problem wil be sorted, but this is not the case here, i am confused?:)

  • the import wizard inside SSMS uses sql integration services so you have to have that installed.

  • its installed as well, at first i installed SSIS on top of SQL instance, it dint work , then i unstalled SQL instance and then made a completed fresh installation that includes SSIS, SSRS, in other terms a complete developer edition on this machine, it still is not working.

Is there any other reason that this error will happen??

  • just a thought, have you applied SQL2005 service pack 2 to the machine

  • its with service pack 3, will this be a problem ??

    Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.1399.06 (Intel X86) Oct 14 2005 00:33:37 Copyright 1988-2005 Microsoft Corporation Developer Edition on Windows NT 5.1 (Build 2600: Service Pack 3)

Windows NT 5.1 (Build 2600: Service Pack 3)

this is your windows OS build version, i am referring to SQL2005 SP2

the SQL product version being reported here

    Microsoft SQL Server 2005 - 9.00.1399.06 (Intel X86)

is SQL2005 RTM, apply service pack 2 first then see how you get on from there
