Quick question, was this just an issue in just these 2 versions or was there a similar issue in SQL 2008 not SQL 2008R2.
SQL 2008 you read correct. Not even R2.
I can't seem to google anything that points to this issue to SQL 2008. I remember reading about this some years ago. I might have mentally associated it with SQL 2008 as I think I was upgrading from 2008 to SQL 2012 at the time.

Just 2012 and 2014. As the article mentions, it's a regression bug.
