I have some IS processes that are geting rather big and being a newbie I decide later (or more likely find in the forums) better ways to do things. I then decide to eliminate or change variables or connection managers, and was wondering if BIDS has a function that will tell you in what all tasks they exist (mainly so I don't change or delete something that is being used in more areas than I thought).

Unfortunately there isn't. Check BIDS Helper. There might be some functionality available, which could help.
