Thanks for this question. I learned how to Find File Growths with Extended Events. Both references: system health session, and Finding File Growths mentioned in the explanation prove that it is possible.
Especially in the article "Finding File Growths" detailed instructions are given, which ends with the sentence that "Extended Events are awesome, and with a little work can give you everything that trace gives you and so much more. Hope this helps!"
The default trace feature will be removed in a future version of Microsoft SQL Server. Avoid using this feature in new development work, and plan to modify applications that currently use this feature. Use Extended Events instead.

Yes, me too. Using XE takes a lot more work.

Work and it's super non-intuitive. I want to love XE, but I find myself frustrated more than excited.
