Is there a way to find out whether a specific user logged on in the past. Assume auditing was not turned on. Does sql server save logon info automatically?

Not that I know of. AFAIK, unless you had profiler running, there's nothing you can do now... except turn auditing on!

Wandrag,
Is this something new to SS2005?
I know that SS2K can audit into the Windows Application event log either a successful login or a failed login (but not both). And it does not register a logoff.

Actually, in SS2000 there are the audit level options of None, Failure, Success and All. I use the Failure option myself but I would assume if you choose All that you would get both Failed and Successful Logins.

Indeed, All gives you Successes and Failures.

Hey Anne,
I suggest looking at a third party software like Idera, AppDetective or Lumigent.
It just depends what your actually looking for.
