Hi all I was wondering if any of you SQL gurus out there who have been working in financial services for a while could recommend some resources to me. I’m soon to start a new Database Analyst / Integration project for an investment bank and need to get up to speed quickly on the type of data I will encounter.
Are there any good resources, books or websites that will help me get started on the sort of data that is pertinent to say a stock market trade??
thanks,

The terminology is the thing that'll kill you faster than anything else. Some of it will be industry terms, some will be local dialect. You'll need to get with your boss and get a good idea on where to look for definitions. (My first few weeks at a financial services company, as the DBA, were very rough because of the terms.)
Also, make good friends with whomever is in charge of Compliance. You'll be working together a lot, most likely, as legal requirements will often trump technical ones in your data solutions.

The DBA aspects of it are standard. Nothing particularly new or different. After all, backups and index maintenance are backups and index maintenance, and quality T-SQL is quality T-SQL.

You might want to look at Patterns of Enterprise Architecture Integration. It covers a lot if the technologies you may come across.
