File system task - illegal characters in path

  • [File System Task] Error: An error occurred with the following error message: "Illegal characters in path.".

Not sure what I'm doing wrong here.

Basically I call (my own) webservice and load the string into a variable and then use a file system task to overwrite a text file with a new file containing the value of this variable. Hopefully the screen shots will illustrate clearly. What am I missing?

In the same package I have some other steps such as a script task for some string replacement and an xml task that is using XPATH to pluck out some tags and put them into a new file in the same folder as above. So the webservice is returning data, the package has permissions to (over) write to the folder so obviously I'm doing something wrong in the properties of the file system task?

Your links don't work as images. You should repost them as a single link to the slide show if you go this route. Many won't bother following such a link, though. It would be better if you uploaded the images.

RBAR is pronounced "ree-bar" and is a "Modenism" for Row-By-Agonizing-Row.
First step towards the paradigm shift of writing Set Based code:
________Stop thinking about what you want to do to a ROW... think, instead, of what you want to do to a COLUMN.

Change is inevitable... Change for the better is not.

  • I tried 2 different providers to link the images, the current one being a shared OneDrive folder. No idea why they won't show, luckily the images don't add a great deal to the story, they just show the folder with existing files from the same pacakage and the FS task properties
