After we completed the forum upgrade on Jan 12, 2017, quite a few things changed, so this thread is a place where we will document and list some of the ways to work with the new forum software that are different.
NOTE: If you are getting a small popup with an Internal Server 500 error, this is likely related to CSS caching. Please CTRL+F5 to hard reload the page.
Replying to Topics
First, when replying to a topic, you have two choices. Each post has a reply button (shown here):
If you click this, you will get a reply that quotes the post. You can delete this in the edit box, but by default it is included. If you leave this in your reply, you can easily click the back arrow in the quote (shown below), to return to the quoted post after clicking reply.
The plus (+) button to the right of the reply button enables multiquote. This will ensure that the quotes inside of the post you are replying to are included as subquotes in your message. Again, you can delete these.
There is another reply button at the bottom of the thread. This will give you a blank reply message.
Both of these will put your reply at the end of the thread. We do not support multi-threaded discussions.
Reporting Posts
There is a flag icon at the bottom of each post (not thread), to report SPAM. If you hover over the flag, the Report Post text comes up. Clicking this reports the post. The forums will automatically hide posts if enough people report them.
You can also like and share the link with the other icons.
Profile
Your profile is now located near the top of the forum pages on the right side.
Clicking this will drop down a number of sections. If you select any of them, you will get a window open where you can change your profile.
Messages
Private messages are accessed using the envelope to the right of the profile link above. As with the profile, a drop down opens with your inbox, but clicking any message will take you through to the messaging boxes (inbox, sent, deleted).
Search
The search is at the top of the forums. If you click the Forum Search, a text box pops up where you can enter search terms
This post will get updated over time with additional items. Please feel free to suggest any.

This thread is a really good idea. A really good FAQ would be how to post code that preserves indentation and avoids overly large line spacing.
And, yeah... feel free to delete or hide this post to avoid unnecessary clutter in it. Only your usage FAQs should be allowed to persist so newbies can get onboard quickly and without having to weave though posts like this one.

All I want to know is how in the world did Jeff get his gif to work in his avatar and mine is failing. 🙂

When responding to a long post, I sometimes like to interleave my answers in the places that I'm responding to. I used to be able to just add a closing quote, type my response and then insert another opening quote. That isn't quite working the way that I expect it to now.
Also can we fix the text for when a post has been removed. It currently says "This topic may has been removed...", but "may" takes the infinitive form of the following verb, so it should be "This topic may have been removed..."

You need to have over 40K points. :hehe:

Posted in the thread, but I'll repeat it here:
It seems there seems to be some issue with the points. I seem to have over 900 points in the last 30 days. I'm quite certain that I didn't do that much points (even answered that many questions). There's also a guy who has over 10,000 points in the last 30 days (there are only about 6,000 QotD points), so that is very remarkable, but probably very unlikely. Maybe an issue with the voting on posts? For example, if I give a thumbs up on a post in this thread, every time someone posts in this thread, that points is double counted? |

There was a data migration, and a date stamped on those, which means that some older users (I think no longer active) got a lot of points awarded in the last 30 days, but not more points (or not many more) than before.
I need to update a post on the point categories as they've changed slightly.

Couldn't the topic options button have an unsubscribe/cancel subscription option on it? I can remember reading posts about this in one of the forums years ago, so slightly surprised it hasn't happened.

What happened to the MY POSTS link that was in the forums of the old site that let you quickly access/review your past posts?

Try going to your profile and then select Replies under the big wasted space thing with all the colors. That seems to serve the same purpose.

It may be because my original GIF was exactly 80x80 pixels so there is no growth or shrinkage.

I'm no longer getting unread posts in a bold font. I also used to be able to hover over a link and get an arrow that would take me to the first unread post in that thread, but I'm not getting that either. Was something updated over the weekend or is this from the fact that I marked all forum posts as having been read? If the latter, is there a way to turn that off?

Liking a post is a little bit odd. Once you do it shows me only my profile as a person who recently like the post but not others. Even stranger is that when others like a post of mine I can't see who it was. Kind of defeats the purpose to sort of show the users but not really. I would suggest an all or nothing concept. SO only display the count. We should show only the count or show all the details.

I'm actually wondering if the Like button(s) are bloating people's points. I've noticed that since the new forums have come out I've probably earned about 700 points (700!). That's almost half what I already had.
I had a look at my activity, and yesterday I got 52 points (1 accepted answer (12), 2 replies (2), 5 posts reported (5), 1 - (1), and 16 liked posts (32)). It doesn't seem to be every day I get a large amount of likes, but I'm getting at least 5/6 a day which is 20 or so points a day O.o
I'm all for showing active members, and those who contribute, being easy to recognise (points mean more active), but I don't want my "points" to make me look like I'm much active (or contribute way more) than I am.

I just liked your last reply and you gained 2 points from that. Seems that points may mean even less than they did before. :hehe:
