Just failed. Wasn't harder than I'd expected but alot more intense. Gutted that I've failed. 3months work for nothing.

Don't feel too bad. Look at it this way, you've probably already put 90 - 95% of the time you needed to into studying. You just need to do the rest then re-take it.
BTW. Did you sign up for the Second Free promotion that Microsoft is running? If not, check it out. If you sign up (free) and take it again before May 31st, you can take it a second time for free (in the awful eventuality that you fail to pass it again). It certainly sounds like a good deal: http://www.microsoft.com/learning/mcp/offers/2ndshot/.
I signed up for 70-229, and was supossed to take it yesterday, but I had a problem with a cluster disk yesterday, and my whole day was shot. I wasn't able to reschedule, so I may have to eat that testing fee.

Youre right, I feel that I couldn't have prepared anymore for the exam. I userd measure up tests ( don't recommend) and read thoroughly several books as well as having 2yrs hands on experience. Dont feel it was a hard exam but seemed to just get over whelmed with the 45 q's . They all had long scearios which needed great thought. Difficult to know where to go from here as I don't think further study is the solution...hmm.

Hi Gladiator9,
Remember that failure means that you did not achieve your desired results and nothing more. Do not beat your self up for not passing the test. Just find some safe place and activity to let out the frustration and anger. Then take about 1 - 2 weeks off and your views and feelings will change. Then logically evaluate the areas you missed on the test and search for better answers for those questions / areas. I know because I have taken the test 4 times now and I am about 4-5 questions from passing.
Keep the faith ,
Andy

Thanks yes I guessed I was about 4-5 marks off. I was surprised over the length of the q's all the mocks I had made were generally 2 line sentences. Still gutted. I don't feel I would be a better dba through passing, maybe more confident. But now I just feel I'm paying for a qualification. Sadly went on a braindump site post exam and honestly at least 50% of the q's are in the dump. Aching to retake asap.

Gladiator9, I also failed the 1st time on 228, then passed the 2nd time I took it.
My coach told me that when somebody knock us out, we have to get up and fight again. That is the spirit. The spirit of a winner.
My friend told me that normally people who passed after they failed had more knowledge then those who passed it the first time. This was because the 1st group did more study than the 2nd group.
So go on, register and take 228 again. And if you fail, take it again. That is the spirit.
Hope this helps.
Kind regards,
Vincent

Yeah sure, book the exam and I'll even attempt it for you. Dude, don't rely on anyone else to do the work for you. The benefit of any exam is preparation & research. Only you should do this. End of thread. An yes it can be done at home.

Gladiator - keep your head up and give it a second try. I think 228 is the worst certification test I have seen in terms of content. It focuses more on test-taking skills than knowledge of the material. Someone got carried away with putting all the exhibits on this test. Don't let it get you down!!!
Now to prepare for re-taking the test, get the Transcender or Self Test free sample tests. I think they have about ten questions each. Decide which one you like better and then buy the full tests. I used Transcender and their 228 was good. Practice eliminating incorrect answers and disregarding irrelevant information on the exhibits. Research any incorrect answers on MSDN.
Do you remember any of the topics that you were unsure of when you took the test? After I take a test, I always go back to my car and write down all the topics and scenarios that I was unsure of during the test. This helps me prepare for my next test by focusing on the areas where I have been historically weaker.
Review the Cramsession study guide and evaluate the gaps in your knowledge:
http://www.cramsession.com/certifications/studyguides/Microsoft/SQL2000Admin/guide.asp
Research anything that isn't rock-solid in your mind. Don't give up and good luck...

Thanks cppwiz -good advice. Hopefully I'll soon be posting good news. You were right about the exhibits. I literally finished with a minute to go. I got bogged down with reading the text and trying to decipher what was being asked.

I too just failed the 70-228. I scored a 658 out of 700 required to pass. Does anyone have a guess as to what that equates to as in # of questions wrong? I'm thinking maybe I was 2 away from passing.
I also agree on the time issue. I had about 6 minutes left after question 45 and so I tried to go back over the 6-8 questions I marked to "review". I got through about 4 of them before time expired. I definitley think that the length of most the questions was long and very time consuming just to read the question.
Luckily I have the 2nd chance and will try some other practices tests besides Measure Up, which I think I have almost memorized at this point

I just passed 70-229, and it is the same way (but probably not as bad). There are a lot of questions with Exhibits. I only read two of them, and one of those I didn't really need. They do a lot of things like tell you:
There are two tables, and a view that references them. You are wanting to allow users to update the two tables through the view (answer, Instead of Update trigger). Based on the question, you don't need to even look at the exhibits (but time permitting, it is probably a good idea). I always try to answer the question first, then review thwe exhibits to verify the answer.
The worst tests I've taken for this are the Windows 2000 design tests (220, 221, 222). They try to overload you with information. I'm lucky that I do relatively well on these standardized tests. You really have to try to eliminate the wrong/bad answers, rather than just trying to figure out the correct one. If you don't, you'll never come up with the 'Microsoft' answer, and you'll waste a ton of time going 'I wouldn't do that!'
