I'm looking for the best way to export SharePoint Lists to SQL Server, preferably with some automation and scheduling of the process. Currently, we are linking to SharePoint from MS Access and Excel as the middle step and then uploading to SQL from Access and Excel. In some cases, not importing Access at all to SQL.
The goal is to get rid of Excel and the Access databases as the middle tier because they are being used as a source for our Tableau Dashboards. We want to connect Tableau directly to SQL because of a larger user pool. That would mean getting the data from the SharePoint lists directly into SQL Server.
One idea on export: I've thought about SSIS to get data from the SharePoint list, then upload it to SQL, and be able to schedule it. But the users are still using SharePoint lists as their front end for data entry. Which is okay as long as we can go from SharePoint to SQL somehow.
Here are some of the applications that we are using:
SharePoint Lists and document Libraries
O365 Power Automate
O365 Power Apps
O365 Lists
SQL Server
SSMS
SSIS
Tableau
Visual Studio
Any suggestions on the best solution via the apps above or other apps is appreciated. Thank you in advance for your help!
