Experience with Upgrade Advisor

  • Can I get comments on the use of the Upgrade Advisor tool? I know how to use the tool, but I am interested in its shortcomings, things it revealed and things it did not catch, and any additional pointers?

After upgrading smaller vendor applications, and with several new deploys under our belt, we are ready to move our “main” SQL Server 2000 instance to SQL Server 2005. There is justifiable concern on this mission critical system with much at stake.

    Thanks in advance

  • I don't like that it can't scan DTS packages that are password protected and doesn't offer the opportunity to enter the password.  We save all of our production packages with owner passwords, so it's been a hassle to save each package without a password just so the Advisor can scan them.
