Hi,
I'm hoping that some of you have worked before with databases where Images are stored?
I'm referring to the situation where we would store a photo of a person so that, when an end user opened up a record for the person, they would see the photo along with the information.
Can anyone give me an estimate on what a good size would be to allow for these images?
It's for an estimate of storage and growth requirements for a new database (so I don't have any available images to use as a baseline).
I appreciate any thoughts that you can provide,

Images can vary greatly is size, so it depends on the type of images you are storing.
If you don't know the image sizes, then any estimate is just a wild guess.

And that's precisely my dilemma.
Some Googling suggests that identification photos run between about 2 MB and 10 MB, and U.S. Passport photos are limited to 240 KB.
I think for the purpose of the exercise I'm involved with, I'll assume a max size of 4 MB.

Hello,
Making the following assumptions, the fotos are portrets of people, so in general they are vertical. A very reasonable size for a picture would be a height of 800 pixels. For 3:2 this would give a pixelsize of 800 x 530 pixels.
A good quality picture would be about 100 kb to about 500 kb. And for very complex pictures the size would go up to 700 kb (for pictures with a lot of structures).
If you do not have control over the size of the pictures, 16 Mp pictures can take up far more space, this can take around 10 Mb voor a single picture.
So it does depend, but 500 kb for a picture gives enough quality for most pictures used on a screen.
