I faced the login failed for user error while installation and it was because of password for log on account I used to start services was expired.
Check whether the password for user ('laasya/laasya') is expired during installation.

The SQL Server install will fail if both the account running the install and domain name are the same.
Create a different account on your machine and rerun the install using the new account.

Do you have any resources on this interesting behaviour?

Sorry, I should have said the install will fail if the account running the install and the machine name (not the domain name) are the same.
I have not been able to find many references to this today, I am sure I got this information from a Microsoft posting. However, this shows the same problem: http://dotnetfish.blogspot.co.uk/2009/02/error-is-not-valid-login-or-you-do-not.html
