  • Hi

I am usinig SS05 Developer edition and would at the time of installation, selected the default instance. Now I have opened the Management studio and when I try to connect I get an error stating that

"A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: Named Pipes Provider, error: 40 could not open a connection to SQL Server) (Microsoft SQL Server, 53)

Enabled the ports and also added the sqlservr firewall exceptions

I have followed the steps mentioned here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/841251/ but still unable to connect to MSSQLSERVER

    Can anybody help

  • Start Browser Service.

Create exception on Windows Firewall or/and Anti Virus

Enable Allow remote access from Surface Area Configuration (SAC)
