Error when creating a SQL 2012 Linked Server to SYBASE ASE

  • I have successfully installed and tested the 64 bit version of SYBASE ASE PC Client 15.7 on a 64 bit SQL 2012 database instance running on windows server 2008R2 operating system. I've successfully created and tested an ODBC datasource and can successfully connect to the SYBASE ASE server from both the datasource utility and using Sybase Central v6.0

After the client software installation I rebooted the database server.

When I view the providers available under linked servers within SSMS, I see that the ASEOLEDB provider is listed.

However when I try and create a Linked Server using the same data source the I used to test conectivity I get the following error.

Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "ASEOLEDB" for linked server "BARCODE". (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 7303)

Not sure why it cannot find the provider when I can use other tools to query the Sybase ASE server.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
