Error: The Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MS DTC) has cancelled the distributed transaction.

  • Hi Everyone,

    Hope all is well.

I am getting a linked server error when I execute code from a developer. I have my linked server setup correctly and I am able to do an insert, update and delete successfully to the remote sql server through the link from my SSMS from source SQL Server . The source and destination are both on SQL Server 2008 R2 on windows server 2008 R2 OS and I have the MSDTC settings configured. Also in the linked server properties I have the following set to true:

Data Access, RPC, Use Remote Collation, Enable promotion of distributed transactions.

In the SQL Server properties I dont have the following selected:

Require distributed transactions for server to server communications.

Also, I am attaching my DTC settings with this thread.

    The error I get is:

    1206, Level 18, State 118, Line 118

The Microsoft Distributed Transaction Coordinator (MS DTC) has cancelled the distributed transaction.

Did anyone face a similar situation. You valuable inputs are highly appreciated.

    Thanks a bunch.

  • Unable to parse the MSDTC tracelog files in WIndows server 2008 R2 without these Tracefmt.exe and traceprt.dll.

  • My MSDTC Trace log file is not helping much as well. Please post your valuable inputs if anyone has seen such issues. Thanks a bunch.
