Error messages

  • I have been getting these error messages in the SQL Server logs for the past few weeks.  "Time out occurred while waiting for buffer latch type 4 for page",   "error 845, severity 17, state 1",    " WARNING ec6b96098, 2 waited 300 sec on latch 803f9c78. Not a BUF latch".  Are these just informational messages? Or is something serious happening on the server?

    Thank you

  • A latch is a type of lock and a timeout indicates that too much time expired. Are you getting errors from clients?

Blocks/locks/timeouts are not serious. They indicate your server, usually hardware, is overloaded.
