Has anyone know what is causing this message -"EXCEPTION error encountered in MAPI extended procedures, exception error code = 0xC0000005."
It seems to be related to xp_SQLMail. The next message in the Log is - "Error: 18009, Severity: 18, State: 1" Followed by "Stopped SQL Mail session."
At this point mail can not be started.
No mail is sent.
Jobs attempting to use mail are in limbo.
However, problem may not show up for days. I have not found a pattern to tell me when this situation is going to happen.
Found nothing in MS Knowledge Base or MS Technet.
Environment -
SQL Server is 7.0 SP3. User profile for Mail is Lotus Notes v5. OS version is NT 4 SP5.

You are right; the problem comes from mapi, which uses lotus notes dlls. I remember several problems with previous version of lotus notes as a mapi provider.
You should check also lotus notes KBs and possible patches for this problem, especially for the mapi interface. I remember serious stability problems with odbc drivers for lotus notes and I suspect that here may be happening the same thing.

Thanks for the Info. Did some digging around on the web site you suggested. Now I have the question as to which MAPI executable I should be using? Lotus or MS? The MS MAPI executable is running. But, should it be Lotus or do I only need Lotus DLL's in the appropriate directory and if so, which DLL's and which directory should the be in?
