Error - Initial snapshot for article is not yet available

    Hello All,

    I have transactional replication setup between SQL 2005 SP2 (publisher) and SQL 2008 R2 (subscriber). These publisher and subscribers are connected via VPN. Every 2 weeks I get this message saying

    'The initial snapshot for the article is not yet available' and the data doesn't synchronize going forward.

    I have no other option than reinitialize the data. Can anyone tell me why is this happening? Also can I avoid re snapshot as the tables very big. Is there a way I could just restart the distribution agent and it can catch up on the replication instead of full snapshot?

    Please please let me know. This is happening for a while now.

    Thanks for the reply Mohammad.

    I read the article. It doesn't help in my situation.

    Each publication has more than one tables to be replicated. Also the snapshot completes and then the changes also make it to the subscriber for 2 weeks and then I receive this error.

    It is really strange to me. But can't resync the lot changes. I have take a new snapshot which really has become a big problem now.

    Please let me know if there is anything else which is causing this.

    Are you seeing any specific messages in the MSrepl_errors table stored in distribution database.

    These are the messages in msrepl_errors:

    TCP Provider: The semaphore timeout period has expired.

    Communication link failure

    TCP Provider: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host.

    Does that help you?

    Can you go to Replication-> Right click 'Properties' -> on 'General' tab - > Check if the option is enabled.

    'Subscriptions never expire, but they can be deactivated until they are reinitialized'

    If it is enabled, then quite not sure what the issue is then.

    Yes the second option is enabled (subscriptions never expire).

    Hello All,

    I am still facing this issue. Every 4-5 days my snapshot invalidates. 'Initial snapshot for the publication is not yet available' I get this error.

    Publication is on 2005 and subscription on SQL Server 2008 R2.

    I really need to resolve this as soon as possible.

    which Distributor are you configured,is it 2005 or 2008 and check the distributor end.
