Error in setting up log shipping

  • Hello All,

Today I was trying to set up log shipping. This failed because the name of the sql server instance was conflicting with m\c name as I was using the local instance instead of named instance. I executed SELECT @@servername which gave me following information.

    PRODSERVER

According to the logshipping setup error I wanted to change this value to 'MISSIONCRITICAL'. To achieve this I had to change my computer name to 'MISSIONCRITICAL'. Is there any other way to achieve this. I am pretty sure that there should be one table in the master database that could be updated to achieve this. I googled but could not find anything encouraging.

  • Can you provide more details about what your entries are? How is the name of your primary server? What is the name of your secondary server? Any screenshots?

    Maybe this helps: http://sqlserveruniverse.com/content/ADMN0100111132007LogShipping.aspx

  • Default instance should not be a problem to set up the logshipping. More detail about your issue will help to guide you.

  • I think my straight question should be:

If my servername <> my m\c name. Then how to change my server name = my m\c name. There is only one named instance.
