Hi,
When i try to install MSDE 2000 in a W2K SP3 Server, near the end the progress bar returns to 0.
I believe that the problem is here (quote from the log file)
>>Action 11:40:33: InstallServices. Installing new services
>>Action 11:40:34: InstallPerfMon.2D02443E_7002_4C0B_ABC9_EAB2C064397B.
>>Loading extended custom action library sqlcax.dll
>>Starting custom action InstallPerfMon
>>Registering performance counters from sqlctr.ini
>>PerfmonLoad routine returned error code 87 <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
>>Action ended 11:40:34: InstallFinalize. Return value 3.
>>Action 11:40:34: Rollback. Rolling back action:
Yes, i have the server service started, and i know of more people having this same problem.
Is there anyone that could help????
TIA, Carlos Crespo

I have never seen this, but maybe I know a workaround.
The logfile says it is installing the perfomance counters. What happens if you do not select those?
For what is is worth, I thing this is error 87 from msi, which means "one of the parameters is invalid".

Searching MSDN, i found article Q188769, but quite frankly, doesn´t help me very much... How can i NOT install the performance counters? MSDE doesn´t have many setup options...
TIA

Ok, maybe this could help someone else...
After several tests, the only way to surpass the "error 87" problem was:
I used a registry cleaner to find keys in the registry that points to files that doesn´t exist anymore (i used regclean3 for that).
After remove all entries that weren´t used anymore (and looks related to SQL), i managed to install MSDE.
This is not a *good* answer (i´d like to know more about this), but life is too short!
Thanks for your help.
