Error 8198 (could not obtain information about Windows NT group/user) after upgrading to MsSQL SP4

  • Hi,

    We have just updated to MS SQL 2k SP4 (from 3) and are now getting the following issue when running jobs as "Dmon\sqlac" (which is an administration account);

    The job failed. Unable to determine if the owner (DMON\SQLAC)
    of job <job> has server access (reason: Could
    not obtain information about Windows NT group/user 'DMON\SQLAC'.
    [SQLSTATE 42000] (Error 8198)).

    Coincidentially, SQL Agent also runs under this account and there are no problems stopping and restarting SQL Agent (therefore rules out connectivity/pwd problems)The jobs also run fine as SA, but fail when run as other "Dmon\<user>" accounts.

    We are running MS SQL Ent 2000 on Windows Advanced Server 2000 (sp3).

    Any thoughts /suggestion would be appreciated,

    UPDATE: The problem seems to have occurred as a result of REBOOTING the server (becuase a similar problem exits on a MsSQL SP3 server that was also rebooted at the same time). Therefore the problem is not SP4 related.

    Cheers,

    JE

  • - apparently that bug/malfunction has not been solved with sp4
