In EM, I bring up the Jobs listings under SQL Server Agent; when I right-click on any job to look at Properties, etc. I receive the following:
"Error 14258: Cannot perform this operation while SQLServerAgent is starting. Try again later."
However, the agent is running. Any thoughts as to what's happening here and how to correct? I'm new to SQL Server and would really appreciate any help.
Best Regards,

Try looking in the SQL Server Agent log first.
1. Open SQL Server Enterprise Manager.
2. Click the + sign next to the server name.
Expand the Management folder.
3. Right-click SQL Server Agent and click Properties.
4. In the Error Log section on the General tab, check to see if the File Name field is filled in; if it is, the SQL Server Agent log is set up.
5. Click the View button to the right of this field to view the SQL Server Agent Log.
All the best,
Dale
