Hi
We are in the process of porting our intranet to a new set of servers. We have 2000+ users and the new 'framework' uses SQL server to generates menu and navigation trees. In addition we have a number of in house and externally written apps that use sql server (5-500 users)
Our current environment uses win2k3 attaching to a sql 7 database on a separate server. This is the model I would like to use going forward (iis on one server sql2k on another), as i am sure for security and performance issues this would be the right way.
My problem is that I am looking for some hard evidence to support my theories without having to build it both ways. Can anybody provide this or point me at a white paper or similar?
Cheers

Some starting points you might find here

and on the discussion on this article.
