Enterprise vs. Standard Edition

  • Right now I am putting together a new system and I need to choose between SQL Server Enterprise Edition and SQL Server Standard edition. Currently the new system is specs to use about 500gig over multiple databases. Does SQL Server standard have a lower upper limit of data space or memory usage?

    Any info would be helpful

    Thanks jimmY

  • The data space and memory limits are the same. However, there are other differences you need to look at. It would be too lengthy to mention here, but you need to browse BOL and the Microsoft SQL Server site so you can make an intelligent choice.

  • Look up "editions of SQL Server" in BOL's index. The most relevant topics are "Maximum Capacity Specifications" (where, if you scroll down, you'll come to number of CPUs and memory supported) and "Features Supported by the Editions of SQL Server 2000".
