I am using SQL 2K Standard edition SP3, running on W2K SP4.
For the majority of things that I try to do in Enterprise Manager there is no problem.
However I do have a couple of problems with EM.
- If I try to select the plus sign next to 'Current Activity' on the left hand side of the screen I just get an hourglass, and Windows Task Manager tells me that EM is not responding.
After waiting, what seems an age, I give up and kill EM usin task manager.
- If I try to do display the database properties of tempdb in EM I have the same problem.( Also if I try to get a taskpad view).
This does not seem to happen with any other database on the server.
I do not have 'autoclose' on for tempdb, and I do not have ODBC tracing enabled on the server.
Query Analyzer is able to issue an 'sp_who' and also an 'sp_helpdb tempdb' without any problems, it is only EM that is having a problem.
Any ideas?

Hi
Is this case, try to connect via query analyser and select * from sysprocesses to verify blocked processes.
In some cases, blocked processes and network activity causes this error message.

EM tends to have certain problems, like that one with Current Activity... I wasn't able to track down the reason of EM hanging in this case, and so prefer to use Query Analyzer to check open connections (mostly sp_who2, it gives you more info than sp_who). It is possible assign execution to a hotkey, so that I don't have to type sp_who2 any time I want to check activity - I just press the hotkey.
