Hi, Speaking about a project for virtualizing some physical SQL Server hardware instances the team in charge comes with the following question: Do could we use Windows Server 2012 standard to run SQL Server Enterprise edition ???, I know that microsoft says that yes it is a viable configuration ( https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143506(v=sql.100).aspx) I said that yes we can. But dear friends am I losing something ??? with this answer that I give, I am not an Windows Server expert, some recommendation from your personal experiences running SQL Server Enterprise Edition in lower edition host OS systems? Thanks a lot for you ideas
Nothing says Enterprise on runs on enterprise. You will be restricted in certain areas, like memory, perhaps number of cores supported, but it should not be a problem unless you have multi-terabyte databases that have to support.
