Engine permissions in relation to SharePoint restore

    So we've been working on a SharePoint restore for a while. The latest request/find is to give the database server's SQL Server Account sysadmin permissions. I can't find a best practice regarding this and I can't find, most importantly, why they request this permission. Does anyone have any idea why they say this and whether or not it is a good idea to give the engine service account a login and sysadmin?

    surprised its even explicitly mentioned, the SQL service account will always have sysadmin rights, in the case of SQL2008 via the service SID NTAUTHORITY\MSSQLSERVER
