Is anyone here encrypting backups? If so, how is it done? I believe I read somewhere were this could be done in SQL 2005 with native tools, but couldn't find anything online or in books online for how.
If it can't be done, does anyone have any suggestions for good 3rd party tools?
Thanks in advance!

One of our servers has over 400 databases on it, we do nightly backups using a full/differential methodology so you can imagine the amount of space consumed by the backups. When all the backups finish we use WinZip to compress and encrypt all the backup files into one .ZIP file. It's not rocket science but it works.

You can password protect the backups natively, but that is not the same as encrypted.
There are some good 3rd party tools. We use LiteSpeed and it works like a charm, both encrypting and compressing.
