Email subject header

  • The updates to the website reflect a cleaner interface with a more modern look and a simpler design. Kudos.

    Put this one in the "nice to have" folder...

    I receive daily emails from SQLServerCentral. With the website change the daily email has also changed, where the Featured Content articles have been moved after The Voice of the DBA. The result is that the subject of the email reflects the 1st Featured Content article, but you have to scroll a page or so down to find it.

    For example, the email I received on 2019-04-04 had:

    Subject: Creating a comma-separated list

    Opening the email (or preview) showed: Rebuilding SQL Server Central

    At first, I thought the emails were not being generated correctly.

    My request is to either change the subject of the email (my preferred option), or move the Voice article after Featured Content.

  • The format of the newsletter has changed, but the ordering has not. The editorial was at the beginning of the old format. There was a TOC, which was really for Outlook as an internal link, but the featured articles were always lower down in the newsletter. Well, at least the last 10 years.

  • As an example, this is an older newsletter.

     

    The Article link at the top just dropped you lower in the newsletter. Until you clicked the link down below, you couldn't see the article content.

  • Steve is correct in the article ordering for the daily emails. But I really miss that TOC header in the new emails. I used to be able to open the email and look at that TOC to immediately see the articles I might want to read that day (or if nothing caught my eye, just move on to the next email). Now it is a bunch more scrolling to even see if I want/need to read any articles.

    It's a minor annoyance, #firstworldproblems as they say, but a big usability issue for the emails, in my opinion. Put the TOC back in the new emails and I'll be smitten. Love everything else, and I know the other missing stuff already posted to the forums will get fixed in due time so I'm not shouting about those 🙂
