DTSRUN /~N

  • I know that the /~N switch allows me to use an encrypted package name rather than a plain text equivalent but how do I generate the encrypted value?

  • David, from the cmd line type dtsrunui. Once the app starts enter the relevant sql server amd package details and click advanced. This will then open a window that allows you to enter the run variables, log file location etc and then encrypt the details into a neat little dtsrun command.

  • Thanks, I've seen the option and it produces a /~Z string but not the individual parameters.

As BOL says that the user name and password options can be encrypted I was curious to know how.

  • David, If you enter the user name and password details at the front screen, click advanced, enter any global variables required and click generate you will see that it creates an unencrypted dtsrun command that includes all these things. Selecting the encrypt option and then generate again will still include all the uid pword and variable only it will all be encrypted in the  /~z option.
