DTS Wizard Truncating Tables ?

  • Am responsible for moving Stored Procs and Views into Prod from a test environment. Sometimes developers provide the sql code, and sometimes I copy the items directly from server to server via the DTS wizard and the copy objects choice. Some work well this route, but I have had 3 different instances of a brand new STP's or View truncating all of the tables listed in the "FROM" statements the very first time it is called from one of our BI tools. None of the STP's contained ANY code to truncate or drop tables. Has anyone else seen or heard of this?

  • Check the options on the copy tab of the Copy Objects task. If you have 'Include all dependant objects' checked, then the task will drop and re-create the tables that the view is based on.

    Hope this helps

  • Thanks Phil! I thought I knew what I was doing with the wizard, but obviously not. I've learned something valuable, and passed it along to my cohorts in crime here! msh0405 (new kid on the block)
