Here is step by step to keep exporting various dts, since maintaining the layout. Using DTSBackup 2000 tool free.
1) Install a tool DTSBackup 2000.
Get the DTS packages from the server of origin (SQL 2000) for a directory.

3) In the Source tab click the Select Source
4) On Storage Location, select Local Packages.
5) In SQL Server select the server of origin, ie where the DTS will be copied.
6) Select the DTS packages to retrieve from the server of origin.
7) In the Destination tab click the Select Destination.
8) In Storage Location, select DTSBackup File.
9) On File path select the directory where you want to store the packages DTS.

You can script all of your packages out of SQL 2000 and script them in to SQL 2005. This forum has examples, or look up Nigel Rivett's examples. However, any form of scripting will loose the layout and annotation details of your packages. The only way with Microsoft software to export and import DTS packages and keep the layout and annotations is to do the job manually. There are some vendor products that can migrate and keep the layout and annotations but they are not free.
DTSBackup 2000 from www.sqldts.com is free and has the option to transfer package without using the object model, so it preserves the layout and annotations. I used it to copy packages from our SQL 2000 instances to SQL 2005 instances.

Welcome Wendell Sá, good to see new blood.
I think Chad and myself dont have any issues with importing DTS packages and keeping the format its the fact that when we open a DTS package in Legacy mode we cannot do anything else in SSMS until we close that package. It seems to lock everything else up.
However, this thread started about 2000 vs 2005 and your advise is related to that and sound advice so thanks for the contribution.

Howard
